The Cave Workshop
Started in 2010 at a factory building in the Kwun Tong industrial district, The Cave is a new upbeat team for design and creativity in Hong Kong. The team was formed by seven young local design professionals, whose specialties include graphic design, interior design and fashion design. The team has been courageous since the start in using recycled materials, and is known for their handmade experimental recycled-wood furniture, many of which were exhibited in different exhibitions.

Since its establishment The Cave took part in many different design and art installation projects in Hong Kong. The Cave was invited to participate in industrial buildings guided tours, regeneration workshops, and a large scale local arts and culture exhibition, Light Up organised by Amnesty International. They were also invited to join Detour 2011 entitled “Use-less”, a creative exhibition organised by the Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design.

Other than wood furniture production, The Cave also worked on the planning of album covers design, filming and props design, and many window display design. The most recent work was to create a series of display props for the fashion brand Diesel. This year The Cave will be hosting more renewable workshops periodically with variety of topics.

Experimental wooden pallet stool
Recycled wood pallets
40cm(W) x 120cm(L) x 4.5cm(H) (Measurements of the longest piece, the others are shorter)

In a modern city like Hong Kong, the problem of wastage is growing everyday. This series of experimental stools was handmade from discarded wooden pallets picked up from the streets. By transforming the pallets through various design elements, every single chair tells its story of once being abandoned.
