Ma Wan was originally a fishing village. A declared historical monument was uncovered in 1997 at the north of Tung Wan Tsai during the construction work of the residential apartments, Park Island. Excavation work was conducted from June till November and 20 tombs of late Neolithic Age to early Bronze Age were unearthed with 15 tombs containing skulls of different ages and gender. The tombs were removed to make room for development and the relics excavated were placed in museums and only a few people in Hong Kong knew about this history of Ma Wan.Artists searched around Ma Wan for more historical materials and would plaques and artwork to commemorate them. In addition, they hope that through interactive artistic creation with the district, the relationship between men, city development and his re-evaluated.
