GRAPHICAIRLINES is a creative team established by Tat and Vi in 2002. The characters created by them champion the “aesthetics of the ugly” and they enjoy creating art to a variety of media, examples being street art, painting, three-dimensional design, graphic design and animation. They created their iconic figure “Fat Face” in 2004 which symbolises the limitless expansion of desire in the city’s materialistic population who neglects the satisfaction of the soul. Tat was selected by “Time Out” as “25 HK designers you need to know”.
The painting was created to take part in an exhibition called “450 square feet”, based on the average living area of each Hong Kong person. The exhibit was made up of 450 pieces of paintings measuring at 1 by 1 foot created by different artists. The 5x5 feet picture of “Tong Lau” created by GRAPHICAIRLINES is inspired by the Chinese tenements’ individuality applying our team’s creativity.
