Preserve Local Culture‧Represent Local Spirit‧Stimulate Folk Creativity
The rapid development of society has changed our lives. While we are enjoying the materialistic abundance, our desire extends endlessly. This creates a number of problems, such as the disappearing of traditional culture and old communities, damage to historic buildings and environmental pollutions, which all happened in Hong Kong such a small metropolitan city.
When the year 2000 came, there was a series of conservation issues arousing the public’s interest in local culture. Founded in 2009, HULU Culture is a non-profit cultural organization striving to create a local cultural platform. An Interactive mode that combines traditions, art and design is introduced to enhance the public’s understanding in local culture. Besides, we also arrange diversified community tours for the public to experience the different feelings towards a community and look for their identity.
On the other hand, the younger generation becomes more interested in traditional culture. We see their need and therefore, we offer guided tours for them to learn about the community history and also inspire their creative talents while exploring the traditional values. They can not only inherit the local culture, but also inject new energy to the community. Residents in the community will also be beneficial from such equal and caring relationship. As a result, it will achieve the goal of sustainable development.
Since its establishment, HULU Culture has been devoted to the research work on local communities. Through collection from the folk and oral history, we can testify the past life and history of Hong Kong. These precious records are important information for institutions and also contribute to community research. We deeply believe that everyone is able to be the inheritor of culture and history with a mission to continue humanistic spirit and preserve and showcase the value of local culture to the future generation.
