Flying Eagle restaurant
Lai Chi Kok Road used to be the “Bank Street” of the district. However, with the Sham Shui Po Pier being relocated, bus routes being diverted, and nearby cottage factories having closed down, this spot has become very tranquil even at peak hours on weekdays.
In the past the restaurant had a clientele of nearby banking executives or factory managers, who came for business lunches over a good steak. Nowadays, students of nearby schools come for lunch. Since Flying Eagle has been continually operated by the Woo’s from its inception, the decor of the old days has been maintained.
Many movies and MTV’s have used the restaurant to shoot scenes, because of its unique 1970s’ atmosphere. In recent years the internet has given the restaurant good reviews and some come from far to try the Flying Eagle. There are even customers in their teens or twenties, who come to dine while dressed up in fashions of the 1960s, or to take “cosplay” photos. Thus, this Flying Eagle is becoming the district’s icon for nostalgia.
