Sham Shui Po Police Station
Located at the junction of Yen Chow Street and Lai Chi Kok Road, Sham Shui Po Police Station was built in 1925 to tackle
public security problems in Sham Shui Po. It is classified as a Grade II historic building. Before Cheung Sha Wan Police
Station was opened in 1978, this had been the police headquarter for the region. Its area of jurisdiction covered as far
as Tsuen Wan. During the Japanese occupation, Sham Shui Po Police Station was used by the Japanese army as a command
unit, managing the nearby detention camps.
The existing architecture is composed of five buildings, with Block C being the oldest. It was designed by Palmer and
Turner Architects and Engineers Ltd. It is three-storied and has a symmetrical layout, characterised by Chinese-style
pagoda roofs, exterior walls in traditional cement plastering with fine granular particles, massive pillars on the upper
veranda, arched colonnade on the ground level’s two wings, as well as keystone arches and keystones built with imitation
primitive stones. These architectural features manifest its neo-classical style, giving out a sense of simple elegance.
Sham Shui Po Police Station still functions as the Divisional Police Station.
