North Kowloon Magistracy
North Kowloon Magistracy, located on Tai Po Road, was
built in 1960. The building’s design is representative of
public buildings of that period. It is also a piece of architecture
in the region to exemplify the spirit of “rule by
law” during the colonial period. North Kowloon Magistracy
was shut down on 3rd January, 2005. It was rated
as a Grade III historic building by the Antiquities Advisory
Board in 2009.
The magistracy building is seven-storied. Its façade is
mainly composed of vertical, long and narrow windows.
Broad, granite staircases form the entrance of the building.
The staircases inside the building have an Italian flair,
with metal balustrades and are decorated with Greek
motif ornaments. Since September 2010, the property
has become the branch campus of the Savannah College
of Art and Design (SCAD).
