There is a Martial Arts Association on Sha Tsui Road, and the teacher here is Cheung Kwok Wah, head of the Pak Hok Pai (“White Crane”) school of martial arts. Master Cheung is an important person in the world of martial arts, well-known in Tsuen Wan. In fifty years his own pupils total more than seven hundred and they spread Pak Hok Pai to more than ten countries.
Master Cheung is a native of Kaiping, Guangdong. His father is a famous martial arts boxer in Indonesia who is also a highly skilled Chinese Medicine doctor. He learned martial arts as a boy from his own father, and came to Hong Kong with his father when he was eight. By good fortune, he came into contact with Pak Hoi Pai martial arts, and eventually became that school’s person in charge. He learnt the usage of the whip from renowned Master Kwan Tak Hing, and in 1964 he started his own school, the Cheung Kwok Wah Martial Arts Association, and took on students.
At 70 years old, Master Cheung looks like being in his prime, he is versatile in all the eighteen martial art skills, such as boxing in the styles of lion, dragon, qilin, or pixiu, he can master them all, and he can wield weapons such as Guan knives, butterfly double-knives, traditional Chinese spears, etc. Cheung excels in the postures and styles, and he displays the martial art’s heroic spirit. Even when he is very busy, he will take time out to do charitable work, giving free medical consultations and herbal medicines to those in need, and dedicate his medical and martial arts skills and ethics to the benefit of society.
