Tsuen Wan Trade Association

Tsuen Wan grew from a small rural town into the bustling urban community of today, and the Tsuen Wan Trade Association accompanied this growth, together with Mr. Chu Chung Shing, who became the association’s officer-in-charge. Founded in 1939, The Trade Association has a wide scope in building up the community, by providing medical services, schools and disaster relief, in the role of a voluntary organisation. It helps merchants and residents to cooperate with each other, and it communicates with the Government to facilitate policies implementation.

“In the 1950s, throughout the entire New Territories there was a lack of medical services. Even with our association’s Residents Clinic by 1953 which made it convenient for local folks to see a doctor, the subsequent medical services were unable to cope with the rapidly growing population. Residents had to go to Kowloon’s Kwong Wah Hospital for medical treatment. The Trade Association proposed a hospital for the district, and this led to the founding of the Yan Chai Hospital in 1962.”
