Miss Wong finds her life intertwined with Tsuen Wan in several phases. In 1964, she had to move from the city to Tsuen Wan, and stayed in the Housing Society’s estate, called Moon Lok Dai Ha (meaning “a building filled with happiness” in Chinese) built on reclaimed land. She stayed there for several decades. Several summers, she spent working as an under-aged worker in the toy factories, also stringing beads and trimming loose threads from garments. Although she emigrated to the United States in the 1980s, her memories of old Tsuen Wan are still vivid. Since she needs to take care of her elderly mother now, she decided to return to live in this place once more.
“In those days when I was a girl, we would stroll to the seaside after dinner, and enjoy the cool breeze there; it was very comfortable. I can still remember that feeling; I miss it so, after all this time.”
